Door shutters are engineered specifically to mount to the door itself, not the surrounding frame. They are hinged to the door panel and swing open independently, allowing the door to open and close normally without the shutter interfering. This is a critical design consideration that differentiates door shutters from standard window shutters — a standard window shutter mounted to a frame would block door operation.
What door types can receive shutters?
We install door shutters on French doors (single and double), entry doors with glass panels, Dutch doors, and door-adjacent sidelites and transoms. We custom-measure every door configuration and build panels to fit precisely. For bifold or sliding glass door-adjacent panels, we use a track-mounted bifold shutter system rather than a hinged design.
Do door shutters come in the same finishes as window shutters?
Yes — door shutters are available in all the same paint colors, wood species, and poly-satin composites as our window shutters. If you already have plantation shutters elsewhere in the home and want to match them exactly, we can match the louver size, paint color, and material perfectly.
Do door shutters affect the thermal performance of the door?
Slightly — shutters add a buffer layer of still air between the glass and the living space, which provides a small insulating benefit. On doors with single-pane glass panels, the improvement can be meaningful. On modern double-pane doors, the shutter's primary benefit is aesthetic and privacy rather than thermal.
