Natural woven wood shades filter light beautifully but allow some visibility through the weave — they do not provide complete privacy on their own, particularly at night when interior lights are on. For privacy, we can add a fabric liner behind the natural weave — a white or blackout liner is common. The liner is visible from the room side but maintains the natural material appearance from the street.
Are woven wood shades moisture-resistant?
Natural woven wood shades — made from bamboo, rattan, jute, and sea grass — are not ideal for rooms with standing moisture (bathrooms, laundry rooms). For kitchens and areas with occasional humidity, they work well with good ventilation. Coastal humidity in San Diego does not typically pose a problem; the salt air environment suits natural materials well.
