A Note from the Studio

When a window is ten feet wide, the treatment must think architecturally — panels that move as planes, not slats that flutter. A panel track closes like a Japanese screen: one gesture, complete composition. For open-plan rooms, nothing else carries the scale. — The iL Progetto Studio, San Diego

Panel Track Blinds — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between panel track and vertical blinds?

Both cover large openings, but they achieve it differently. Vertical blinds use individual narrow vanes that hang from a single track and tilt like traditional blinds. Panel track systems use wide fabric panels (typically 12"–24" wide) that glide along parallel ceiling-mounted tracks, stacking behind each other when open. Panel track has a dramatically more contemporary, architectural look — the panels read as a soft wall element. Vertical blinds are more utilitarian; panel track is a design statement.

Can panel track be used as a room divider?

Yes — and this is one of its most popular applications. Panel track systems can be installed on a room-spanning ceiling track to divide an open-plan space into zones. When open, the panels stack neatly to one side; when closed, they create a full-height fabric partition. It is a popular choice for open-plan living/dining rooms and home offices inside larger rooms.

What fabrics are available for panel track?

Panel track can be made with any fabric we carry — sheer, light-filtering, or blackout — in hundreds of colors and textures. The wide panel format particularly suits textured fabrics, bold colors, and large-scale patterns that would be difficult to appreciate in a narrower shade. Woven wood panels are also available for a natural, organic alternative.

How wide can a panel track system be?

Panel track systems can cover virtually any width. For very large openings, we install multiple panels that stack in layers behind each other on parallel tracks. There is no practical width limit — we have installed systems covering 20+ feet of glass in open-plan homes. The ceiling-mounted track ensures smooth operation regardless of width.
