What is the best sheer fabric for San Diego's intense sunlight?
For San Diego's coastal and inland light, we recommend linen-blend or polyester voile sheer fabrics with a tighter weave and a slight UV-blocking finish. Pure silk sheers are beautiful but degrade faster with direct UV exposure. Belgian linen sheers hold their color and texture far longer. For rooms with direct western or southern exposure, we pair sheer drapes with a solar roller shade behind them for complete flexibility from fully open to fully closed.
Should sheer drapes be wider than the window?
Yes — for a full, gathered look that reads as intentional rather than sparse, sheer drapes should be 2–3 times the window width. This "fullness ratio" determines how full and soft the fabric falls when the panels are closed. We calculate the correct fabric quantity based on your window width and your chosen fullness preference during the consultation.
