The warmth of wood without the moisture sensitivity.
PVC composite slats resist moisture, UV fading, and scratching. Available in a wide range of wood-tone finishes. Easier to clean than real wood and more durable in high-humidity rooms.
We are purists about materials, which is exactly why we respect a good composite. Real wood warps above a west window that bakes for six hours a day; this does not. The judgement is knowing where each belongs — that judgement is what you are actually hiring. — The iL Progetto Studio, San Diego
Real wood blinds offer genuine wood grain character and a premium feel, but they are susceptible to moisture — they can warp and discolor in kitchens, bathrooms, and coastal homes with salt air humidity. Faux wood blinds use a PVC composite that looks nearly identical to wood but resists moisture, warping, UV fading, and scratching. For San Diego's coastal and semi-coastal environment, faux wood is often the more practical long-term investment.
Faux wood blinds are slightly heavier than aluminum or real wood at the same slat width, but the weight is not noticeable in normal operation. For very wide windows (over 72"), we recommend wider-slat options or installing two blinds side by side to prevent the center slat from bowing.
We offer faux wood blinds in 2" and 2.5" slat widths. Wider slats (2.5") have a more traditional, substantial look and allow more light through each gap when the slats are open. Narrower slats (2") feel more contemporary and refined. We bring samples of both to your consultation so you can compare in your actual window.
Yes — faux wood blinds are the right choice for bathrooms precisely because they resist moisture. Real wood would be inappropriate here. PVC composite slats will not warp, swell, or discolor from shower steam or humidity. We install them in bathrooms regularly and they perform extremely well.
